Agree what the total includes
“Open orders” can mean accepted orders to sales and unshipped quantities to the warehouse. We settle that definition with the people using the report, including how returns and partial cancellations affect it.
The finished view needs a source update time and a way to inspect its records. A failed refresh should be visible, rather than leave yesterday’s figure looking current.
